Torah

Torah: Is the first 5 books of the Scriptures/the Books of Moshe.

Rom 10:3-4; “For not knowing the righteousness of Elohim, and seeking to establish their own righteousness, they did not subject themselves to the righteousness of Elohim. For the Messiah is the goal of the ‘Torah unto righteousness’ to everyone who believes.”

There are 6 different Hebrew words, which all have different meanings that are translated as law into English and other languages. If you do not know these different words, their meanings and were they are used in Torah it is VERY difficult to understand Paul's writings and to not use them out of context.

The Ancient Hebrew Root for the word Torah is:

YRH (yod/resh/hey) – the action means to throw and the concrete meaning: rain. – A throwing of the finger to show direction to walk or live. The throwing of an arrow. The throwing down of water in rain. To point the way one is walking in life / teach / shoot / archer / cast / teacher / rain / laid / direct / inform / instruct / show / shooter

The word GOAL in the above verse is the better translation. Torah means to show a direction/ to have a goal for us. What is the goal of the Torah? Messiah! So it is not that he came to ‘end’ the Torah but to fulfill it.

Parasha/Parashot

Parashot – Weekly teaching/Torah portions. The Torah is divided into parts – because there are 52 weeks in a year. So every week you have a Torah portion to read. It consists of a piece of Torah, with a correlating piece of Haftarah and also sections out of the Brit Hadashah. They all convey the same message each week. Some break the Parashot down into 7 daily pieces, which is called the Sedrah’s.

Brit Hadasha

Brit Hadasha - Hebrew for New Testament - Renewed Covenant

Talmud

Talmud - These are many Jewish writings / commentary on the Tanach and Jewish Culture. They were written about 250 ad – 450 ad, thus after the Renewed Covenant. The first Rabbi (besides Messiah, who is the true Rabbi), as we know them today, was Yohanan Ben Zakai. He only lived 100 years after the resurrection. Please note: I DO NOT TEACH FROM THE TALMUD – IT IS MAN MADE LAWS! I AM NOT A JEW. I TEACH TORAH – FROM THE WORD OF THE CREATOR.

Haftarah

Haftarah: it means “after” Torah. That is the Nevi’im and the Ketuvim
In times when Yisrael were in persecution, and they were forbidden to teach the Torah, they would still teach the principles of Torah by using the Prophets and the rest of the old Covenant – because everything is repeated!

Tanakh

TANAKH (Ta-hag) - Old Testament = Genesis to Malachi . The word Tanakh is actually an acronym! It was made up from the following 3 words. Torah, Nevi’im (Prophets) and Ketuvim (The rest of the old testament).
